Welcome to P1I
WELCOME TO P1 with Mrs Carson and Mrs Ferrin
Primary One children have settled in wonderfully this term. We have loved getting to know them, and hope they’ve loved getting to know us.
A big thank you to parents for all your support so far. We really appreciate it!
Our topic this term is called 'All About Me'
We will be learning all about;
- Families - Who makes up our family
- How I have changed - a timeline for your child
- Memories - creating a memory box of special items they have had since birth
- Different cultures
- Friendships - linked with the NSPCC programme
- Babies - Caring for babies
- Our emotions
We love learning all about our families and how we are all different.
We decided it is so much better to be different than to all be the same!
We really are off to a colourful new year!
We have enjoyed using stories like 'Elmer' and 'The Colour Monster' to help us learn about colours and our emotions.
Buddies
Each of our P1 children has been given a P7 buddy to look after them in the playground at break time. They came down and played with us on our first day in Rosetta and continue to play with us every Monday and Wednesday. I think P7 enjoy this as much as the P1s.
Dinner Hall Visit
Our dinner ladies were so kind and made us a special break for our first visit to the dinner hall. We had milkshake and iced biscuits - delicious!
Our Autumn Walk
We had a fantastic time on our Autumn walk to Cherryvale on Thursday 18th September.
We looked at all the beautiful trees and discussed the variety of colours that they turn during this season. Our P7 buddies came with us and helped us collect and identify all sorts of Autumn treasure.
The P7's also joined us in the playpark where we had lots of fun on all the equipment. The staff included!
Writing our Names
This is a very tricky skill for us in P1, but we are practising as often as we can! Our rainbow rainclouds are a fun way to practise our letter formation. Make sure you are practising often at home as well!
Autumn Play
Our play has started to become very Autumnal, because as the weather changes, so do our play activities!
Some of this things we’ve been up to this week…
- Construction: Building “pumpkin people” with our popoids to resemble our family members.
- ICT: Playing pattern train on the interactive whiteboard.
- Making Autumnal patterns on the light board.
- Scooping and pouring lentils to make Autumn soup.
- Weaving pinecones and then unwinding them. So good for building up our fine motor skills!
- Making hedgehogs with our playdough.
- We made a small world with our vehicles, roadways and playpark. We covered it in leaves just like the story “Sweep”.
- We painted patterns on pumpkins.
- We read wonderful Autumn books.
- We played the hedgehog dice game, learning to count the dice and build our hedgehogs. It was great for practising taking turns too!
Outdoor Play
We have loved having outdoor play with the other P1 class. So many fun activities to practise fine motor skills, our sounds and numbers, pattern, turn taking, gross motor skills, roleplay, balance and creativity. We had a ball!
Maths Week
We have just enjoyed Maths Week in Rosetta. P1 had a week packed full of fun activities!
Monster Monday
We used our 2d shapes to make all kinds of wonderful monsters! We were able to name our shapes and discuss their properties too.
Choosing Tuesday
We had a selection of maths games that the children got to choose from and play with their friends. This was great not just for maths skills, but social skills too!
Weigh it Wednesday
We got to use our bucket balances, choose items to weigh and make predictions about what was heavier and lighter. It was lots of fun!
Time me Thursday
Mrs Carson made us exercise today! We used a 10 second timer and had to count how many of an activity we could do in the time. We did things like star jumps, jabs, squats, patting our heads and much more!
Fun Friday
We got to enjoy our maths outside today. We were using our chalk for forming numerals, throwing our number beanbags into hoops, making peg patterns, counting pinecones, finding things that were heavy/light and measuring dinosaur bones. The sun was shining and we were all dressed up - what a fun day!
Autumn Leaves
We had so much fun learning about and collecting leaves. We had fun mixing colours to make them look real. Doesn't our work look wonderful?! We absolutely loved the poem by George Cooper and reading the story of 'The Leaf Thief'.
