P2C/F
Welcome to P2C/F! Our teacher's are Mrs Capener and Mrs Ferrin and our classroom assistants are Mrs Stewart and Miss Magowan.
We have been settling in nicely into another school year. We have made lots of new friends and we are engaging in lots of learning.
Term 1
This year we went back to our Start of Year Curriculum Talks for the first time since covid. If you were unable to attend please find the information below.
Literacy
We have been very busy this term improving our reading and writing skills. We have been been working on our phonic skills and really enjoying the games we play with our new phonics sounds each week. P2 have been having a go at sounding out some tricky words and trying to recognise the vowel sounds in the middle of some 3 letter words.
Maths
We have been very busy this term learning all about numbers. We have been working on the number bonds of numbers within 10 and have been working on developing our mathematical language. We are now looking at all the numbers from 10-20. We have been practising addition strategies and then applying this to our work.
WAU
Our topic this term is 'Healthy me and Fabulous Food'. We have been enjoying lots of play based activities to help build our understanding of the topic. We used fruit themed paper to make our own fruit faces inspired by Giuseppe Arcimboldo. We used scissors to develop our fine motor and cutting skills and showed off our creative sides with some fantastic creations.
We have also loved playing in our role play hospital and pharmacy. We have got to take on the role of a doctor, nurse, pharmacist, receptionist and patients. We have got great imaginations! We have been developing our maths skills by sorting fruit and vegetables by size and by using the sorting pie to sort out the fruit in a number of ways including colour, number and type of fruit.
P2 also learnt all about germs and looked at how quickly they can spread by carrying out an experiment with bread. We had 4 pieces of bread and passed them around everyone in the class. The first piece of bread was passed around with our hands as they were when we returned from lunch. Then we passed around a second piece of bread but this time we had rubbed our hands on the face and the carpet before hand, and even around the bin!! The third piece of bread was passed around after we had all cleaned our hands with antibacterial hand gel. The final piece of bread was not touched at all and was just kept in a control bag. Over 3 weeks we monitored the bread and could not believe how far the germs spread on our 'dirty hands' piece of bread.
